Bangalore Rotary Lakeside Club – Amazing Experiences

Bangalore Day 2

The team met the hosts from the Bangalore Lakeside Rotary Club in the Sun City area of Bangalore who have so generously taken time away from their work place and family to allow us to experience life in some of the more recently developed areas of Bangalore. Progress is seen everywhere. No wonder we couldn’t find a traditional shopping market on our first day here – much of retail commerce has moved to malls. We haven’t made it to a mall yet, but the team thoroughly enjoyed making purchases of lovely light cotton clothing at the charming shop Fab India. This business is a success story for many micro-credit projects that provide beautiful articles of clothing and housewares. The self-owned apartment projects where we are staying are most interesting. Private developers utilize bore wells to supply water and provide fire safety, sewage systems are similar to septic systems at home and then after development the issue of road structure issue attempt to be addressed. I asked our team member, Sophia to describe traffic and she immediately replied undescribable; it will be interesting to see if this reporter sorts out her wording at a later date.

One of the greatest joys of Rotarian hospitality is to see Rotarian families in their own homes. The connectivity between host and hosted is almost always instantaneous as the GSE team has experienced. Small nuances are always explained, such as the use of a home- made ground beetle nut powder concoction (supari) that is taken at the end of a meal to clear the breath. The children of the host families are enchanted by their new “aunties”.

In the evening, we were honored to be invited to the lovely outdoor reception for PRID Mark Daniel Mahoney and his wife Gay, who will serve at the RI President’s representative at the District Conference. The weather was like a warm August evening in D5080. This event provided us an opportunity to meet the D3190 District Leadership Team as well as members of the GSE Team from District 1900 in north-central Germany and the Rotary Friendship Exchange Team from D5080’s Tri-Cities area that is being led by current DG Rampur Viswanath and Treja. It is always amazing to go half way round the world to meet Rotarians from your own district that you often deal with via e-mail.
